BUDGETING DEFICIT: GAMBLING WITH OUR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION
Title: PRSD Board Meeting Highlights - April 25, 2024
Source: Peace River School Division Website
In April 2024, the Board of Trustees approved a budget with a staggering $551,952 deficit, using one-time reserve funds to cover the gap.
Months later, after receiving a last-minute provincial funding injection, a trustee was quoted in an official news release admitting the board's strategy: "By submitting a deficit budget this year, it shows that this funding was needed."
This is a clear admission of a reckless financial plan: You pass an unsustainable budget and just hope for a bailout.
This raises critical questions for parents and taxpayers: What was the board's Plan B if that money didn't arrive?
Deeper cuts to teachers, busing, support staff or even more school closures?
That’s gambling with our children’s education.
